Vom 22.-23. November trafen sich auf der iX Konferenz unter dem Titel "Für bessere Software" mehr als 300 Teilnehmer und einige Dutzend Sprecher. Ich habe in meinem Vortrag "Warum Visionen nicht genügen" die These vertreten, dass IT-Architekten die Verantwortung für ihr Handeln nur dann übernehmen können, wenn sie neben dem reinen Software-Entwurf und der Programmierung noch eine ganze Reihe weiterer Aufgaben erfüllen, beispielsweise kommunizieren, dokumentieren, bewerten, entscheiden, vermarkten und so weiter.
Erst dieses breite Aufgabenspektrum unterscheidet nämlich IT-Architekten von Chefprogrammierern - und unsere Kunden brauchen Verantwortliche! Also Schluß damit, sich hinter Code zu verstecken und laut "Dokumentation ist für Schwächlinge" zu rufen :-)

Spring examined - found healthy!
On our openArchitecture conference in Bonn, Jürgen Höller (lead developer of the Spring framework) met Walter Bischofsberger (founder and lead developer of Sotograph, a really cool architecture analysis toolkit).
Jürgen sat together with Walter to examine the current Spring architecture with Sotograph,
after some 30 Minutes (oops - really quick, isn't it?) they identified a few minor symptoms, which Jürgen rushed to fix on-the-fly.
That was a good demonstration of both the architectural quality of Spring and the power of Sotograph (and, of course, of the deep knowledge of these guys in their domains...).
